How to grow a Pineapple with your kids

Updated: Feb 22, 2022

Plant together.

Pineapple is a tropical plant that is very easy to grow and take care of. Experiencing the pineapple growth process is very interesting and fulfilling for kids, and you may also be rewarded with a tasty pineapple!

After eating together one of the most delicious fruits, you can plant together the top prickly leaf. You will get a beautiful new plant for your home, that you and your kids can take care of it together.

The two things you need are one ready-to-eat pineapple, and, one plastic bottle for re-use as a place for the pineapple to grow some roots.

here is what we did:

1. Before you eat it, cut the pineapple about 3-4 cm from the point the green leaf starts to grow.

2. Cut carefully a plastic bottle (about 10 cm height from bottom), place the pineapple in the little ball you've created, and fill it with water until you cover the yellow part, that is the place where the roots will appear very soon.

3. Replace the water every day or two. It might be seen like the yellow part is very soaked with water, a little beet like a sponge, eventually, some of the yellow parts will fall off.

4. After about two weeks you'll start to see some white roots growing around the point where the green leaf starts. after another week you can move it to its new home, a large flowerpot. Place it in a sunny spot, and water it as needed, we water it once in a few days.

we have 3 beautiful pineapples plants, we take care of them together, and maybe someday (in 2 years or so) we will also have a fruit we grew our own!

we will update!
